The last good World Series

Monday October 29, 2007

This World Series was a joke. The NL is an impotent league completely incapable of putting up runs against any of the AL powerhouses. Every AL team in the playoffs this year would have trounced the best of the NL. When is the NL going to get their sh*t together? These things certainly are cyclical, but I pretty much expect the AL to win at least seven of the next ten World Series titles. The last quality World Series was 2001 when the Diamondbacks stunned Mariano and the Yankees with the most exciting come-from-behind game 7 victory I’ve ever witnessed. Since then, it’s been a series of forgettable Series’. Here’s looking to 2008…please give us something to cheer about at the end of the season.

Uh Oh Barry: MLB expects Bonds to be indicted soon

Tuesday July 11, 2006

Major League Baseball officials expect Barry Bonds to be indicted on perjury and tax evasion charges, according to a report in Tuesday’s editions of the New York Daily News.

Though the officials told the Daily News they have no inside knowledge of the grand jury’s proceedings, they said they expect an indictment as early as next week, as the grand jury that has been hearing evidence against Bonds in San Francisco is due to expire in the next few weeks.

Baseball sources also told the Daily News they conducted their own investigation into Bonds last year and found evidence of wrongdoing.

Bonds’ personal trainer, Greg Anderson, was held in contempt of court last week and taken to prison for refusing to testify to the grand jury. Anderson served three months in prison last year after pleading guilty for his role in the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative steroid scandal.

MLB.tv running on Linux with Firefox and mplayer

Tuesday April 11, 2006

I was happily watching MLB.tv using my Mandriva laptop with Firefox 1.5 and mplayer plugin, but as soon as opening day hit, MLB launched their new interface, which I believe requires Flash 8+, which is not available for Linux, thus this killed my streaming baseball experience. Needless to say, I was pissed, so I spent endless hours tweaking and trolling the Linux boards to find the solution.

Go Team Japan

Monday March 20, 2006

Otsuka just struck out the last Cuban hitter and Japan has wrapped up the first World Baseball Classic as the champion. I didn’t see too many games early on but as the second round started up I saw a whole lot of emotion and excitement, similar to post season baseball. I gotta say, I’m a fan of this idea. Too bad the next one isn’t until 2009.

Come on Soriano, stop being such an ass

Monday March 20, 2006

Dude, suck it up and move to left field. You’re new in town, we’re not just going to roll out the red carpet for you to play second base. We already have Vidro, who’s an all-star. You are quickly becoming persona non grata in this town and if you don’t start doing this for the team you’ll be hearing nothing but a chorus of boos each time you’re up at the plate.

Godspeed Kirby Puckett...You Will Be Missed

Tuesday March 7, 2006

Too young to go. A tragic ending to a brilliant baseball player. I’ll never forget you kicking ass in the AL during the late 80’s and early 90’s. You’re playing on the big diamond in the sky now.

Baseball statistics: history or property?

Wednesday February 1, 2006

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (AP)—A company that runs sports fantasy leagues is asking a federal court to decide whether major leaguers’ batting averages and home run counts are historical facts that can be used freely or property that can be sold.

In a lawsuit that could affect the pastime of an estimated 16 million people, CBC Distribution and Marketing wants the judge to stop Major League Baseball from requiring a license to use the statistics.

The company says baseball statistics become historical facts as soon as the game is over, so it shouldn’t have to pay for the right to use them.

Castilla for Lawrence...good move

Friday November 4, 2005

I’d like to applaud the Nats for making a solid move unloading Castilla for Brian Lawrence of the Padres. Castilla, while a fan favorite has been on the decline. He’s a little old, and waiting in his wings the Nats have Ryan Zimmerman, their #1 pick in last year’s draft.

Dear Christian Guzman...

Saturday October 29, 2005

Dear Christian,

Paying for your services this year as the shortstop for the Washington Nationals ranks up there with one of the worst investments ever.
